About the development

Social and physical regeneration of this particular area of St Helens is a priority supported by both local Councillors and an active and engaged tenants and residents association, FINTRA.

The Greenfields development, an integral part of the regeneration programme, provides much needed affordable housing and is part of a wider strategy to modernise and re-energise the locale.

In the wake of Government Welfare Reform and in response to a subsequent change in local need, original planning for a mix of 2 and 3 bedroom houses for affordable rent was revised.

To enable us to relocate affected tenants in 3 bed homes into 2 bed homes, the decision was taken to develop only 2 bed houses for rent together with 5 one bedroom apartments, again for affordable rent.

Greenfields was my first design and build scheme for Torus. It allowed me to do what I always wanted to – which is to see the blank canvas of a new site and then watch it come out of the ground to completion. It was interesting for me to run this scheme alongside purchasing units from a private house builder and to see first-hand what a superior product we offer - more space, more storage and much more light!
